The prompt for this story was “Writing a novel” submitted by superfr0g. This story fits into Chapter 27 of Ruth’s (un)Officially Wacky Boolprop Challenge.
Rating: PG
Dramatis Personae
Casilda Shankel, age about eight or nine.
Lisa Shankel, her mother and a well-known actress.
Setting
The living room of the wacky-Shankel house. Casilda has just pulled a book from the bookshelf.
CASILDA: Mom, what’s this book with your name on it?
LISA: Oh, that’s a little thing I wrote in college. (reaches for it) I’ll take that.
CASILDA: (pulls it away) But I want to have a look at it.
LISA: No you don’t. (reaches again)
CASILDA: (pulls away again) Yes I do. You’re a real writer. You wrote a novel, just like Grandpop and Great-Grandma Ruth.
LISA: No, no, not a novel. Jut a play. Hand it over.
CASILDA: A play. I don’t know if I like plays.
LISA: You wouldn’t. They’re boring. Why don’t you read Grandpop’s poetry, or Great-Grandma Ruth’s autobiography?
CASILDA: I want to at least know what the title is. Why isn’t it on the cover? (opens the book to the title page)
LISA: CASILDA MARIE SHANKEL –
CASILDA: (ignoring her, reads) “Woohoo.” The play is called “Woohoo”? And my mom wrote it? Ewwwwwwww! (flings the book away, wiping her hands on her skirt) Ew ew ew ew ew!
Note
Despite “writing a novel” being a requirement for my OWBC, none of my Sims have ever actually written one – just autobiography, poetry, and plays. >.> Tenuous connection, but I say it counts.
