Dramatis Personae

Leonid Andrews, Criminal Mastermind and native Russian speaker.

Setting

Leonid’s modest studio apartment. Leonid is on the phone; the other speaker is not heard.

LEONID: Hello, Ernest Petrovich. Is Leonid Ilyich.

LEONID: Da, am wery well, thank you. Ernest Petrovich, I am needink to call in marker you are givink me last year for workink on space monkey laser.

LEONID: Da, scheme is not workink. Is not good scheme. Is why you should have been hirink me in first place. But you are admittink that space monkey laser piece is wery good and is workink perfectly. Plus, I have marker. Unless you are... what is word? “Welchink”?

LEONID: Calm down, please. I am not thinkink that you are welchink.

LEONID: I am lovink older woman, many years older, and I am not wantink to be losink her. For this I am needink… I forget name… green liquid, is comink in container shaped like hourglass…

LEONID: Da, Elixir of Life. I am takink fifteen bottles, please, and we are callink it even.

Notes

I don’t use Elixir of Life very much, and have decided that it is an illicit substance, only dealt in by criminals like Leonid and his friend.

In the Guys and Dolls stories of Damon Runyon, a “marker” is an IOU, and “welching on a marker” is to refuse to pay up on an IOU. Even the hardened criminals in Runyon’s stories wouldn’t dream of welching on a marker.

Aww, Leonid and Trixie. <3 Your take on the elixir is interesting, too, it makes sense that not everyone has access to it.

Well, it makes sense the way I play, anyway. Someone who uses it all the time maybe wouldn't have elixir as a restricted item.

Leonid + Trixie = all kinds of awwwwww. I miss them. :(
