Community Lot "Vegas"
Oct. 1st, 2011 10:25 amHi everybody! I created a lot that I'm quite proud of, and I thought I'd show off some pictures. I have yet to play-test it, but I can't see any reason for it to not work. So, without further ado, I present "Vegas"!

The outside, in daylight. Like most casinos in the real Vegas, it's going for a general impression of something rather than accuracy. In this case, it's the Far East.

Here you see Vegas in all its neon-lit glory. (It looks much better at night.)

The first floor contains the "slot machines." Also, please not that this is not a night sky, it's a purple ceiling. Like Real!Vegas, this casino has no windows and lots of artificial light. In the real world, that makes people lose track of time, so they gamble more and longer.

Next to the slot machines are the card tables.

There are multiple card tables. There are also bathrooms on the first two floors, tucked in behind the elevator.

The inside of the bathrooms basically looks the same. Instead of sinks (which Sims never use), I have installed espresso machines. That way, Sims theoretically don't have to leave to sleep. The coffee is free for the same reason that drinks are usually free at real casinos: to keep the customers there and playing longer than they would otherwise.

The second floor has a "stage" area so Sims can perform for tips and floor space for dancing.

To the left of the stage is a bar...

...and to the right is a mahjongg table, the elevator, and bathrooms. The idea is to be able to make as much money as possible off just about every floor.

The third floor houses the restaurant, because we can't have Sims leaving the lot just because they're hungry, now, can we? :)

The hostess stand is right by the elevator, but there are no bathrooms behind the elevator on this floor.

Instead, we have the world's smallest restaurant kitchen.

There is no room for anything at all behind the elevator on the fourth floor, because the building is a stepped-pyramid shape, with each floor smaller than the one below it.

There is nowhere to gamble or even to spend money on the fourth floor. But there is a wedding arch, because it just wouldn't be Vegas without the ability to have a quickie marriage. (Elvis impersonator not included.)

The fourth floor also contains seating...

.. and a tea ceremony table because I had empty space and nowhere else to put it.
I hope you enjoyed the tour. Thanks for checking it out! :D

Date: 2011-10-01 02:54 pm (UTC)I'm not sure exactly how long it took, because I'd work on it a little bit here, a little bit there over a period of a couple months. Maybe four to six hours once you total all the little bits up? Both the neon lights and the ceiling tiles have to be placed one at a time, which drove the time up considerably. I think the hardest part was actually getting the color scheme for the fourth floor right, followed by getting the right carpet for the restaurant. The rest practically built itself. :)

Date: 2011-10-02 01:11 am (UTC)The ceilings are actually custom content, since I've entered a contest on Boolprop where I get points taken off for having skies in the picture. But I'm still trying to keep CC to a minimum. And it helps that Vegas is not known for being tasteful. :P

Date: 2011-10-02 01:40 am (UTC)I do know about peanut butter and jelly, your jelly being what we call jam. The thought of those two together is rather unappealing to me, probably how you all feel about Vegemite-something you grow up on and are use to eating. We do eat peanut butter and honey though.
I actually do remember you saying you put those on. They will help the look of your pictures a lot. This reminds me, are you entering the building event? You should now you have the ceiling tiles.

Date: 2011-10-02 02:27 am (UTC)I think I will enter the building contest. :) Because, you know, I need more stuff to take me away from my regular game. *joking* :P But I'm sure you'll do better than I will, even if I /am/ allowed to be inspired by the Winchester Mystery House. Date: 2011-10-02 04:03 am (UTC)Of course we all need moar things to take us away from what we should be doing or our updates! I’m off building a space ship/shuttle house for my alien family right now and I should be cleaning my house. Blah.

Date: 2011-10-02 11:43 am (UTC)The one thing this lot lacks is scantily-clad showgirls, but I figure I can make it an owned lot and then hire some. :P There are those NL outfits that are useless for anything else, with the kimono-type sleeves and the miniskirts, that I think might work.

Date: 2011-10-04 09:52 pm (UTC)No, you can't have it all. Alas. But when I make this an owned lot, maybe I can rectify the Elvis omission. :)
