Hi everybody!

(waits for answering chorus of "Hi, esmeiolanthe!")

As you may or may not know, I've decided to go over to the Dark Side and install (shudder) Windows 7 on a Boot Camp partition on my new machine. This will give me a much newer computer (about 6 years newer) and access to all the EPs and SPs, as well as Clean Installer, SimPE, and other fun toys like that.

It also means that I have to reinstall everything, update all my hacks, rebuild my 'hood again and so on. (I have to rebuild because some of my integral hacks are not AL-compatible and have no compatible version, and I'd rather that everything didn't explode, thanks. Plus it's a great chance to get rid of some cc that I don't want, but that can't be removed without extensive intervention from SimPE, which doesn't work on Macs.)

My Windows 7 disc is currently sitting in the post office, waiting for me to come pick it up, which will probably happen Friday or Saturday, and then there will be lots of work to do. I will also be organizing my Downloads folder better this time around, and organizing my WCIF better too.

My old machine still works just fine, and I can still play and write. I will post as I have things completed, but because of installing and updating and rebuilding and all, I probably won't be playing and writing as much as I would without having embarked on this huge project, so updates will be irregular... not that they've been all that regular lately anyway. (sadface) And the AiP fifth birthday special probably won't be very special at all -- unless y'all decide to help me out by sending in questions I can answer! Hint, hint...

Expect to see plenty of WCIF posts soon-ish, and maybe pictures.

Of course, this is assuming that everything works the way I think it will (and the way it should) -- if it doesn't, the computer is going to the repair shop or out the window, one or the other!

You can still use all of your lots and sims so hopefully set up shouldn't take so long. :)

Well, I'll have to clean all the lots very carefully, because they were all made in a 'hood that was opened while an NPC-generating hack was in my Downloads folder. And the sims will have to be recreated in BodyShop again, although the restoring-genetics-and-family-ties should be a bit easier with SimPE. (This is because of favorite foods that I'm not transferring, and also Leila's husband's magic skill, which won't play nice with AL.)

How do you clean a lot properly, so no stray NPC bits come along for the ride?

The best way is to build a lot in buy/build mode then package the lot to file. If that part was skipped, and the lot had sims moved in, well I personalty would not keep that lot. I don't think the NPC generating hack would effect the lot unless it was used in that lot, same as if sims were moved in. Might be best to ask Mootilda over on MTS that. Any hood opened while you have an NPC generating download makes a character file for that hood, but all the townies and playables also have a file. Community lots unless owned don't save the data, they reset clean each time your sim leaves so a well played unowned community lot is safe, unless you used a mod to save it during play.

I do my building in my clean rebuilding 'hood, so that part's OK, but I do have those NPC-making things in my downloads folder. I don't want them to tag along! I will ask on MTS.

Yes, I was. I have an online friend who gave me an awesome deal on BG, Uni, NL, Celebration Stuff and H&M. ;) I was able to find the rest on Amazon for reasonable prices, and they're all sitting on my kitchen table, waiting for the Windows 7 disc to make it home so I can install them.

It'll be pretty exciting exploring "new" expansions though, right? :) But like Jo, I'm sending good vibes for a smooth transition!

Also, I'm cheering you on with the cc rumba. I'm also doing an overhaul on that, and it can be quite a lot of work. But we'll get it done, and then it'll be all nice and shiny!

"The cc rumba," I like that! :) Yes, it will definitely be lots of work, but I can do it right and organize properly this time, so it will be exciting too. And I know where pretty much everything in my game came from, so redownloading the stuff I want to keep will be no problem. And shiny is a wonderful motivator! :)

Meh, the LJ page changes whenever I get bored. :) I'm pretty far behind on everything myself, so no worries! You've been busy.

I'm short one EP, but according to the post office, it's now in my city, so it should arrive tomorrow or Tuesday. (No mail on Sundays.) Still reinstalling all the fixes and cc and stuff too. Haven't played hardly at all, but I'm having a great time downloading and organizing. Now if only enjoying being clean and organized translated into RL...

Nope, AiP's birthday is in July, so question away!
