I am playing the Creation To Future challenge created by joandsarah77 (Jo) over at Desirable Discourses. It's a fun challenge, but is currently set to viewable by members only on the original board. Now, I am all in favor of people joining Desirable Discourses -- we're a small forum, but we're friendly and active, and we have a great collection of smilies. If you're interested in joining, we'd love to have you!

But since not everybody is a member and since this is a fun challenge, I asked Jo if I could repost the rules here for more people to see them. She said that I could repost Stage 1 and Stage 2 only, because she is still revising the rules to make them work for people who (like me) don't have all the EPs, but that I could repost the later stages as they become available.

So here are the rules for the Stone Age and Roman/Egyptian/Early Medieval Age stages of the Creation To Future challenge. Later Ages are Medieval, Renaissance, Victorian, Modern, and Space.

Creation to Future challenge

The aim of this challenge is to start out with a sim stone age couple who know basically nothing and to move forward gaining knowledge and building a township up until you have descendants smart enough to send a sim into space.

Stage one/Stone Age

To start
*Make a new neighbourhood set to spring, summer, autumn (fall) and winter. This hood should not have any subhoods. Those will come in time. ;)

*Place the challenge lot. The lot is available for download on Boxnet
Lot with all cc including bin and mail box re-colours:http://www.box.net/shared/p4hx60zk31
Lot with all cc excluding bin and mail box re-colours:http://www.box.net/shared/isqc3meme1
Note* This lot comes with a lot of cc. Please don't delete the terrain paint out with CI or it may make the entire lot to flash blue. Feel free to build your own.

The following can be found by themselves:
Waterfall shower http://www.box.net/shared/mepvox6tda
Rocks http://www.box.net/shared/y5lc8s2oej
Hay bed http://www.box.net/shared/dnzp9u6mxl
Pee anywhere spot (female) http://www.box.net/shared/fm70kjqozo
pee anywhere spot (male) http://www.box.net/shared/yh3bkmvl5e
Can cause a pixilated blury spot on the sims.

The lot comes with the main cc items of a waterfall shower with a cool down option, a double hay bed and *invisible toilets in darker green near the waterfall(*These "Pee Anywhere" spots had a no upload to the exchange sticker on them so I removed them.) I have now uploaded those to boxnet separately. See above.
The lot also has a recoloured fridge, 2 benches and a waste disposal unit (So more things can be composted.)
There is also a juicer, compost bin, 3 fruit trees and and garden beds 6 squares long, times 6 rows and 15 lady bug houses.
If you don’t like the invisible toilets (men stand, ladies squat all with blurry patch) then you may use a wooden medieval toilet.

The Sim Couple Make two married adult sims. Ugly, pretty it's up to you. Except no heavy makeup. Freckles, natural looking lips and lashes are fine. Heavy coloured eye shadows are out.
Their clothes
Harder option 1: naked, leaf, or grass clothes or any combination of those. (BV grass clothes are fine) If you choose this they need to change to animal skin clothes by the time there eldest Child brings a playmate home. We don't really want to scar those poor kidlets for life now do we? :D
Easier Option 2: Start off in animal skins.
I used the cave clothes found here: http://personal-computer-tutor.com/sims2/clothes.htm

+5 points for starting in naked/leaf clothes.

Money Even stone age sims have to pay bills.
They may dig for treasure but you may only delete bones and rocks for the money. They must not delete anything else dug up. Vases, statues, treasure chests etc must stay unused in inventory. They may pass it down to their children's inventory as they can use it at some point in the future. Same with any boots fished up, simply leave them in inventory. Because none of these things had been invented yet so you need to pretend they are not there.
They may sell/delete any fruit or garden produce for money, but make sure you have enough food for the winter!
They may search for seashells at the community lot, clams, shells and starfish may be deleted for money. Not coloured glass.

They have no birth control so any whoohoo must be try for baby unless pregnant, to old or 8 people in the house already. They must though have a minimum of three children spaced however you like. One additional point for every child over 3.

Babies: are to have a cot only or baby floor blanket in old fabric. Cheap cc ones, such as a cane basket can be downloaded.
Toddlers: A change table is needed to change there outfit. Try and dress them for the times, so naked Barbie skin, leaves, animal skins.
There is also a $1 sandpit at modthesims which lets them skill logic. Otherwise just buy the wooden shape sorter blocks. They didn't have plastic toys! There is also a wooden $1 potty at MTS as well as well as wood recolours of the Maxis portty.
They may also have a toddler floor blanket in old fabric.
Children: No toys, just a hay bed. Hint- red hands and gardening is a great way to raise fun.
Teens
Roll for primary aspiration. Secondary aspiration may be set to whatever you like. Teens may go to school or not, your call. If a one bolter can't be found in the townie population you may make a townie to suit them.

Shelter/hut There is to be no shelter built until they have at least one child. (child meaning offspring, so yes a baby counts) You may postpone children but the shelter must also be postponed. I had two toddlers and a tiny hut the first winter there; they made it so I know it can be done without cheats. Start building at least 8 squares away from a tree/shrub. Use mud, grass or plain wood walls.
Or instead you can delay children and buy the cheapest fireplace which looks like a barrel.
Trees and bushes may only be deleted to make room for the house that you are trying to build IF you already have the money to build just past it. You may not delete it to gain the money to build to where it is standing until gold gardening badge unlocks woodwork. You are then free to delete as many trees/shrubs as you like.

Other Items: A wooden bath tub may be downloaded once their first child becomes a toddler.
MTS has a wooden 'trashed' bathtub here:http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?p=1623191

The cheap BBQ may be bought to cook on when they have the money. You can download cc ones that look more like an open fire. MTS has a 'cave man' hot coal spit here: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=289932

The trash compacter is another allowed exception so that they may compost more items.
If the trash compacter breaks there is no one to call so you either delete it and replace, or risk mending it with none or little mechanical skill.

There are of course no phones, burglar alarms or smoke detectors. You will need to consider what you spend there money on carefully. Remember planting the garden also takes money.

If you have the money you may buy stone furniture such as seats/couch and table.

Friends Adam and Eve or whoever you make/name them, are all alone in the new world. They must not speak or great anyone who passes by or comes to their house such as annoying free time hobby lot people. Click off the greet interaction and they will leave.

School: There are two options here. You may send the children to school, but try and make them walk there. Just make sure the social worker doesn't take them. After all there were no social workers back then. When one of the children bring another child home off the bus, this means there are other people around and they may greet anyone passing by.

Or you may use Simlogical school hack and set the children to flexi school, put out the sign to stop the school bus and forget about school altogether. If you do this the children and other family members can not greet or meet anyone else.

Games/Hobby's Sims have numerous things they can do on their pie menu such as red hands.
They may stargaze or cloud watch. Parents can dance or swing a child around. Any game or activity involving their hands or bodies only. Not balloon fights or balls or bubbles.

The newspaper must be immediately composted as they can’t read yet.

Bugs! They had no spray cans so pick up trash immediately or bugs will over run them! Try hard not to get roach infestation. If you do you can either try and ignore them. (maybe they will go away? Or a visitor might spray them) Or your sim can squish them five times Before spraying. It's a shame squishing doesn't kill them; it should. (We will pretend the squishing is what killed them)

No spraying allowed of the garden. This is why you have the lady bug houses.
Use compost on the garden as they have no shop to go buy fertilizer at.
Try and compost as much as possible. The aim is to be as natural as possible.
-5 points anytime you use fertilizer.
+10 for never using fertilizer.

Aspiration rewards- No aspiration rewards.

Cheats: There are of course no money cheats allowed. No maxmotives or any similar kind of cheats. You may of course use use whatever cheats are needed to fix a glitched sim, object or to fix your game up.
Buying a new fridge If you totally run out of food -20!
Spraying bugs -10
+5 points for every toddler skill learnt. Remember no aspiration rewards are allowed until someone later becomes a UFO investigator (level 8 paranormal career) or an abduction happens.

* Addition: Only those related by blood to the original two can lift restrictions. Certain townies may come with a whole heap of skills already which would be far to easy. Likewise when a townie moves in sell only from there inventory things which agree with the current restrictions.

Al additions: Couples now come with $25,000 so you will need to use the new lot or make your own giving them 3 fruit trees and 6 garden plots and extra trees/shrubs as needed so they are close to having $200 once they move in.

Makeovers: You may buy a mirror and give your sims makeovers. Sell the mirror back or stash it in inventory.
Hacked clothing rack: Getting clothes for free. -1 point for every clothing item. Skins may appear under many categories, that is -1 per category it covers.
+ 5 for every item of clothing bought at the 'shop'.

Social Worker! -10 points for every child she takes. Your sim must have another baby to replace the one taken. if all 3 get taken they must have 3 more children.

Side Challenges: These are optional.
Pets: Adoption of a pet signifies that animals have been trained. Your sims may now purchase a rideable horse. (From MTS. It works like a car) +5 points.

Teens: Once 'homeschooled' children become teens they may meet other sims. Aim to find them a future spouse from the townie teens. They need to have a least one bolt for and be friends with them. This is without use of the phone so it is only teens passing by, delivering the paper, met at the community lot or brought home on the bus that can be talked to. So once you have them keep them there as long as you can to build the relationship with.
Your teen may walk to your community lot as often as they like. They need to stay teen until they age to adult or can use the birthday cake. Teens may not attend uni. You may send them to school or not as the social worker does not bother with teens.

Adult: Once they age to adult they must move to there own 3 by 4 block as close to the original house as possible. The only grown child not to move out is the heir who is to live on the original block until they die. You then have to grow up their intended spouse.
Various means such as the Bat Box or FreeTime. If you use uni to grow them up, drop them straight out. There is no playing uni as further education is not around. On there adult birthday you may summon them or temporally put in a phone and ask the intended over then resell the phone.

Spares:
Spares do not have to be played at all. You can leave them in the bin or put them all onto one lot, but if you play them they need to be added into the rotation and keep to current restrictions.
Play them by rotation. Decide if you want to play them for a sim week, a sim season or a sim day, so long as it’s the same amount of time to keep things even.

Death: Hopefully this wont occur until your sims are old.
Make a graveyard and move any urns out to it. Graves must be kept on the lot until the community lot business is level 10. Once level 10 is reached you may make a community lot cemetery.
Until then you will have to deal with any ghosts. A water mote may be put around the graves. Sometimes this works and sometimes not. If somehow everyone on the main lot die then you fail. I guess if you had ragging flu along with ragging ghosts that everyone dieing could be a possibility.

skills:
Creativity: These poor sims have no creativity what so ever!
Mechanical: This may be learnt by fixing things.
Cooking: By making meals.
Cleaning: By cleaning, filling in holes, moping puddles.
Charisma: Still only by toddlers being taught nursery rhymes (FT)
Logic: Toddlers via sandpit/blocks
Body: N/A

Other: For players without BV you may add 2 harvestable type trees per sim on your lot. Beware that pregnant sims can not climb paw-paw or coconut tress and can only eat from banana trees. This is so you can sell more produce for money.

For those using no or little cc decide on a colour for each stage and for stage one use items with the lowest comfort value.

Scoring! yes I decided to add it. Get 50 points for making it to stage 2. If everyone from the founders down is still alive add an additional 5 points.

Wooden Age
Gold gardening badge:
Once one of your sims earn Gold gardening badge this unlocks woodwork. Your sims can now 'make' chairs, tables, beds, kitchen benches, anything made from plain undecorated wood.

Body can now be learned via the skipping rope.

You may delete or move trees and bushes freely once woodwork is discovered

Egg Plant juice Is to be no more then 1 cup per day per sim.

Gold fishing badge (Does not have to be the same sim with both badges) Clay and plant dies are discovered so they can have the easel as well as the pottery wheel from Freetime.

Plain undecorated (or very simply decorated) medieval type peasant clothes can be worn if wished.

Wood with simple decorations can be bought. Small clay pots or wooden items dug up can be sold for cash.

Side Challenge
Voodoo Doll This can be attempted once gold gardening and fishing badges are earned.
Super natural help is to come from the Witch Doctor after trekking through the jungle, not a witch or warlock. +10 if you show your sim meeting the witch Dr. Get another +10 if you receive the voodoo doll! I see this as quite a hard but not impossible thing to achieve.
There is now a downloadable pottery stand which skills mechanical. Only the sim taking this challenge on may use this special pottery wheel. The mechanical he or she gains are for this challenge only and do not count towards topping mechanical which must be done from a book or if lucky eggplant juice.

A phone needs to be temporarily purchased to allow the sim/s to book the holiday (vacation)to Tikkii Island. Delete after the booking.

Creativity: Once the easel is allowed you will need to start skilling creativity. Once creativity is maxed they enter the

Stage Two/ Early medieval
Originally this was to be Roman or Egyptian, but that has been revised because cc is easier to obtain and makes things look more realistic. Feel free to do Roman or Egyptian if you prefer. They are only labels for the stage.

Clothes: Simple medieval, Egyptian or Roman clothes are to be worn. The kind of clothes servants or upper class peasants would have worn. Or as close as you can find. If you are attempting the challenge without cc. Plain green, brown or grey clothing will do.

Stage 2 does not use metal like the real medieval period did. If you use cc try and make their house and clothes to suit. Plain painted or stone maxis walls will do.

The person who maxes creativity invents all kinds of games and creative outlets. They invent paint, stone walls, chess, log rolling, darts, throwing a ball (Catch and football tossing from FT) toddler drawing and block building (FT toddler/child activity table) and percussion instruments (That is the UNI drums and toddler xylophone)

A clay/brick oven may be downloaded and used.

All those objects can be bought and used now. You can get wooden recolours of the xylophone or also a drum for download. A wooden tree swing with a rope and wood swing attached from it may be downloaded.

*
Amended
: Treasure chests may be used on and for the business lots only unless you don't have OFB. Then it can be used anyway you like.

OFB: If you have this EP your extra creative sims decide to open some community shops. Have them buy the smallest lot in your lot bin and build the shop from scratch. So long as there is a bench with a till, a shelf with saleable items and an open/closed sign they can run a shop. You are free to choose the money perks. In my own game once they have the 20,000 perk I have made them into merchant class. (middle class medieval) The shop should of course meet all currant restrictions.

One family must open a grocery store using produce they have grown and fish. They may use the produce bin from the buy catalogue as well as. One catalog produce bin for every full shelf of grown produce until the reach level 5. After that they may go over entirely to the catalog produce bins if they want. Once it reaches level 10, they may sell it back to the community to be run by townies. There are to be no freezers or cold storage used as those need *electricity. * This includes lights. Candles may be used.
Once this produce shop is up and running your sims may go and buy groceries. Then they don’t have to live off the land apart from the sims running the shop. You may also build a tavern/restaurant so your sims have a proper place to eat out.

Optional shops would be a clothing store, an art shop using half buy catalouge and half sim painted paintings. A pottery/knick knack shop. Any type of shop allowed under the restrictions. Those can be community or home shops. Makeovers may be given at owned shops.

Bonus for OFB players: On gaining Gold till badge sims may buy and use the flower making bench. They may also open a flower shop and sell snap dragons.
Once Gold sales badge is reached children may use the lemonade stand.
If you don’t have OFB then your sims will have to continue living off the land. They hardly had delivery vans in ancient Egypt.

Logic: Once the chess set becomes available they can continue skilling logic. The first sim to max this has tremendous brain growth and invents reading and writing. See part 3 for details.

Vegetable and fruit juice: See Snooty Sims for the complete list of what they do and how to make them. http://www.snootysims.com/infoindex.php?id=juices

These rules were revised after playing. Eggplant juice is restricted to no more then one cup per day for each sim.

Big thanks to Jo for allowing me to repost these rules! I hope someone else finds the challenge as fun as I do. :D
